Overview

Every Season is High Adventure Season

Autumn is one of the best times of the year to visit North America’s Canoe Country.  The weather is (usually) wonderful and the summer crowds fade away.  The changing color of the leaves – the Aspens turning gold and the Maples red – are beautiful.  Best of all:  There are no Bugs!

Overview

Canoe the beautiful Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness during the fall, taking in the spectacular change of seasons! With the cooler nights and shorter daylight hours the fall season’s annual change of color peaks with vivid red, orange, and yellow, as the maple, birch, oaks, aspen and tamaracks all compete to dazzle your senses.

Enjoy the solitude of remote portages without the big crowds of the busy summer season, and take advantage of the warm, sunny days, without the mosquitoes and black flies! Sit around a crackling, warm campfire during the cool night, as you recall that day’s journey. Camp out under the stars in your sleeping bag, where far away from city lights, you will be able to gaze up at more stars than you have ever seen in your life! And, you may even be lucky enough to witness the awe-inspiring northern lights, as the shimmering red and green displays of the aurora borealis become more frequent in the fall and winter.

Customize your trip to be a fishing trip!  With the winter months just ahead, autumn is feeding time for most species of fish.  Catch Walleye, Northern Pike, Small-mouth Bass and pan fish at any time of day and at any depth.  Enjoy a great shore lunch or dinner when you return to your campsite.  On a custom autumn fishing trip, Northern Tier will provide all the necessary fishing equipment (feel free to bring your own if you prefer). Northern Tier’s Fishing Adventures are available only in the fall and to Scouts age 14 and older.

Overview

Northern Tier is the Boy Scouts of America’s gateway to adventure in the Great Northwoods. In the summer, our Scouts age 14 and older,  explore millions of acres of pristine lakes, meandering rivers, dense forests and wetlands.  Now younger Scouts can get a taste of the adventure!

During the fall, we are giving Scouts age 11 and up a chance to ‘Get Their Feet Wet’ and experience Northern Tier in a more controlled environment and shorter trip.  This 4 day Wilderness Canoe Trip is for any Scout age 11 and up and their adult partner.  Each trip includes full outfitting (food, crew gear, canoes, PFDs, paddles, and permits) as well as a highly trained staff member, called an Interpreter. Participants will be introduced to the fundamental skills and pleasures of wilderness canoe camping.
